Hi. I am trying to locate details of the service record of William Campbell who joined the Imperial Yeomanry in 1901. He is recorded in the 1901 census as a Yeomanry in the Imperial Yeomanry at Salamanca Barracks in Aldershot but I have been unable to trace any details after that. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Hi there. Unfortunately I don't have any firm details about the unit. William Campbell (he was my Great Grandfather) did say in a 1911 interview that he served in the Boer War and he is listed on several documents as a 'Yeoman' in 1901. Clearly at the end of March 1901 he was in Aldershot listed as a Yeomanry in the Imperial Yeomanry presumably whilst training. On the details of the Census it records additional details which read as follows 'second Royal Home Counties Reserve Regiment South African Constabulary Imperial Yeomanry School of Cooke. Salamanca Barracks. I have found two entries for the SA Constabulary with serial nos 951 and 2876. So these may be him. He was born in Liverpool in 1870 - 3 ( it varies on different documents) and was married at the time. I haven't found an entry in the Imperial Yeomanry yet that fits his details. Ty hanks for helping on this.

Did he have a middle name? William Collin Campbell, born abt. March 1873 in Toxteth, Liverpool, was a baker prior to enlisting in the Imperial Yeomanry on 4 March 1901 with regimental number 33077. He was at the time married to Beatrice Heyward, living at 26 Kinnell Street, Hyde Park Street, Liverpool. Arriving in South Africa on 7 April, he joined the 89th (Welsh) Imperial Yeomanry at Mafeking on 13 July. He served in South Africa until 10 November. Returned to England, he was discharged as medically unfit on 18 December. He was awarded the Queen's South Africa Medal with clasps Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, and South Africa 1901.

Hi there,
That's him. That's great thank you very much. Where did you get the information? Where can I download the records? Does it say what was wrong with him? Thanks again.
Richard
