I have evidence from Ancestry that a Felix Laker, b. 1870 (actually 1869) in Thakeham, Sussex and serving as a Gunner with the 4th Battery Royal Field Artillery, received the KSAM with clasps for 1901 and 1902. However I haven't been able to track down any further evidence or details of his service.
Further to that there is a suggestion that he might have served in the South African Constabulary in 1902 but he was back in Sussex by 1907 when he married (as Felix Henry Laker b Steyning 1870), in Eastbourne, an Emily Richardson. The LDS also suggest that he may have been a Chelsea Pensioner.

I would welcome any help that anyone can give.

Thanks

Hello,
I'm looking at this from the military point of view only, the QSA/KSA rolls are on ancestry, take a close look at the remarks column on both the entries for him, if by doing so, you are able to establish that the man in the RFA is the same man shown on the SAC roll and you have already looked for his British army service papers, but are not able to find them on ancestry, then they are unlikely to still exist, note that is kind of 99% unlikely, but, not 100%.
In that case, the record cards and service files for the SAC would be your best source of information, but, they are in South Africa and you would need to contact a researcher in that country and have copies made.
Regards Frank

Thanks Frank, the records on Ancestry that I've seen (KSA, I couldn't find QSA and the SAC link is reliant on a record on another site that I only have minimal access to) don't show any remarks, however subsequent enquiries elsewhere have thrown up

Felix served Royal Artillery 16th Dec 1889-19th Sep 1902
India 1890-1898
South Africa 1899-1802 (Boer war)
Uk based other times
Served 4th Battery of the Royal Artillery Regiment during the Boer war
Awarded South Africa medal 1901-1902
If you google 4th Battery you'll get more information.

But, having followed that advice, I'm none the wiser other than a paid for site that I've had poor experiences with in the past and which still inundates me with spam. But the detail from that other source suggests to me that the info is out there somewhere.
Regarding South African enquiries I have used the online national records site in the past with some very good results but they can be patchy and in this case I can find no results for Felix.
