Hi, my Great Grandfather was Pvte E Caney of the RAMC and died of Enteric disease in May 1900. He is commemorated on the memorial in Aldershot but I would like to know if, due to the disease, he would have been cremated in South Africa and therefore does not have a grave over there?

Any information would be greatly appreciated, many thanks!! :)

According to Steve Watt's book 'In Memoriam', Caney died in Cape Town and was buried in the Maitland, Cape Town, Cemetery.

As my relative died and appears to be buried in SA, would anybody know if a death certificate would have been provided by or to the Army and be available in the UK?

Also, is it possible to get obtain a photo of the grave and how would I go about it?

Again, any help appreciated.
Andy

In case Adrian has missed this thread, send him a PM (capepolice). He is the best person to ask about archives and records in the Cape.
