Hi - a longshot - tried all I can think of - in truth that does not amount to much as I am rather stumped re Boer War. This was my Grandmothers uncle - he joined the British Army (probably on a short term contract) and then joined the South African Mounted Police. I think - again not sure he lived in Natal - had some sort of mealie farm sideline. I didn't pay enough attention to my Granmothers stories of her Uncle Joseph and now regret it. If anyone has any idea where I would start looking for his service record I'd be very grateful . . . Thanks

Askillaun,

Looking at the QSA information on Ancestry, there are some 85 people called J Greenwood. There are none with the name Greenwood-Sedbergh nor any with the surname Sedbergh/Sedburgh on its own.

There are some Joseph Greenwoods on the militia records and the Army service records on FindMyPast but no Greenwood-Sedbergh and no one with the surname Sedbergh.

The Ancestry and FindMyPast searches should have turned up something if he was there.

Did he definitely take part in the Boer War? Do you have any more details?

Regards
David

Hi Can you let me have more details such as grandma's or Josephs date of birth or date of marriage, where they lived or were born. In fact any little snippet which might seem to be nothing but can help a lot. Don't worry it's just a hobby of mine and I love it when I can help someone. Depending on your age I probably know some of your family as I was brought up in Sedbergh. If you have any details you can send them to me at [email protected]
