Getting initials or names incorrect is quite possible. However with about 400,000 men serving there may be a lot with the same name.

Maybe introduce yourself and give us some background. Where did they serve, do you know anything else that could help?

There is a 650 Bandsman D Moxom serving in the BSAP in the Boer War but no J Moxon that I can find.
