Hi All,

I am reaseching John Walker i was told he was in the armry between 1901 - 1909


I am looking to match birth 1881 -1885 Sheffield, Enlisted Middlesbrough.

looking for Army service record from 1891 - 1909

was either in West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince Of Wales Own) or

or Princess of Wales's Own (Yorkshire Regiment)

I have a couple of J walker who could be him,

Rank: Private j Walker



Rating: 5739, Unit: 3 Battalion The West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince Of Wales Own)

also Rank: Private j Walker, 2367 1st Battalion The Princess of Wales's Own (Yorkshire Regiment)

any help would be great

Hello Paul and welcome to the forum,

I had a look on FindMyPast to see if the service records for these men were available. While there were men called Walker with these regimental numbers, neither was called John.

Do you think they may have served in the Great War?

Thanks for the info David, (it always been a family story that John walker served in bother boer war and ww1 )my mother is 84, she alway thought that her father John walker was in the boer war, John he was in ww1 c company 8th bat yorkshire regiment,

Thomas Wick her great uncle was in boer war DLI served just under 10 years.

Based on what you have given me, i now think that my mother most of over heard a story of her uncle who was in boer, later think it was her father.
