Hello Frank,

I agree with you completely.Fighting the Boers was no easy task and if you had inadequate leadership and poor guards you were bound to be "taken out"

Sad but there it is.

I think their "leadership" were rather too busy with breakfast and perhaps a cigar and newspaper, so little thought was given to actually posting guards on the day!

Thank you for all the information on E Bushby.I have contacted the QRL in Nottingham but they do not retain individual service records.
In the meantime I have obtained a copy of his death certificate from the GRO at Stockport. Unfortunatelt this document still records the name of the deceased as E Bushby with no christian name shown. Informations relating to next of kin, UK address or date of birth still means that I have not established whether or not Mr Bushby is my wifes Great Grandfather.

I will keep trying!
