"Killed in the Boer War February 10th 1900 aged 24 years." The family headstone is in St Andrew's churchyard, Longton, near Preston, Lancashire.

Anyone have any information on him? Presumably killed at Spion Kop?

497 Private James W Thompson, 1st Scots Guards, died at Wynberg on that date, though, he had been serving with the Guards Brigade on the western front and not in Natal.
Anybody else got any thoughts?
James Wharton Thompson was the son of a police sergt and is shown in RG12 as a fifteen year old Moulders apprentice.

Hi,

Here is a photo of the memorial in the Wynberg Anglican Cemetery in Cape Town which shows the details as given by Frank above. The pics are from the eGGSA Library website.

It is in a poor condition.
