Greetings,
I am currently research on behalf of Stamford School, Lincolnshire, the name of our Old Boys who served and died in the Boer War. During the conflict we lost two men, the second of which is a Cecil Herbert Warren. The information below amounts to what I so far been able to unearth on his life, military career and death.
Cecil Herbert Warren
• Born 1874 at Kibworth Beauchamp, Leicestershire
• Son of George Katz Warren and Mary Warren
• Lived at Great Bowden, Market Harborough
• Educated at Stamford School 1886-1892
• Junior Partner in the electrical engineering firm, Lea and Warren, based out Kettering, Northants.
• Sailed out with the 28th Company Bedfordshire Imperial Yeomanry (Lord Compton’s Horse), in February 1900.
• Served as a Trooper
• Regimental Number 14993
• He was wounded by a Boer sniper whilst on out-post duty near Johannesburg on September 22nd, and died on October 11th at a hospital in Johannesburg.
• Awarded the Queens South Africa Medal with Three Bars, Colony-Orange Free State-Johannesburg.
I am now in search of any additional information anyone may be able to provide me relating to Mr Warren’s time during the war i.e. conflicts he may have been involved with, where precisely he is buried, a photograph of him/ his grave etc. Any information at all essentially that will help create a larger picture of his time in South Africa and help add to what I hope will be a fitting tribute to the men of Stamford School who fought for their country.
Many thanks,
Nick
