I came across his name on a family gravestone in Adlington Cemetery, a few miles south of Chorley, Lancashire. There's no direct connection with the Boer War but he died at Accra, West Africa, on 9th April 1901, aged 27. Is it possible that he died of disease on his way home from South Africa?

Hello Berenice

I've not recorded anyone by that name as a fatal casualty.

It is unlikely that he was connected to the ABW. Ships travelling to and from SA did not put into West Africa but used the mid-Atlantic islands for coaling.

Thanks, Meurig. I thought it unlikely as the inscription didn't mention the war but best to check.
