Ther court martial is a slight side step from the basis of my research but an interesting one for all that. I am trying to find two men from Nelson in New Zealand believed by their family to have served in South Africa. They are Arthur Douglas BIRD and his brother Charles Armstrong BIRD. I cannot so far at least find any evidence they served. Their family believes that Arthur BIRD was somehow involved in the court martial as a witness for the defense attesting that British Officers indicated there should be no prisoners of war from the skirmishes taking place at the time.

Millward,

Ancestry has 641 entries for Boer War participants with the surname Bird. No matches for their full names.

I cannot see anyone with this surname in the Bushveldt Carbineers.

There is one C A Bird but he served in the Royal West Surrey Regiment.

Sorry not to be able to shed any light on their service.

Best wishes
David
