This is part of a photo session, taken near Ladysmith in December 1899 or January 1900, which generated several famous portraits of Botha at his slimmest and most dashing. My question is: the man crouching on the right of the photo is his secretary, JS Sandberg; but does anyone recognise the young man on the left?
(Yes, I know Botha is leaning on a Mauser which is cocked!)

The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past.

Sandberg looking considerably less stressed, and a lot more dapper.

Photographed for a lecture tour, during December 1901.
