While filing away the British items in my collection I stumbled upon a small grouping of about two dozen Kodak snapshots taken during the early months of 1900 by an unnamed officer in the Kings Royal Rifle Corps. All photographs are annotated and there are 4 featuring a certain Jack Creagh (other photographs mention Captain Aldworth, and Colonel Cooke-Collis.) I looked Creagh up and the only one I could find in the KRR is James, a Surgeon with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. I thought of sharing these snapshots as James died of enteric just a few weeks after the pictures were taken. As British units are not my thing, perhaps some KRR medal enthusiast would like to put a (ok, a bit fuzzy) face on one or more of his little plaques of silver.
Creagh James Surgeon Lieutenant Colonel He died of enteric, July 6th, 1900, between Viljoen's Drift and Kroonstad. His battalion was embodied in December 1899, and having volunteered for active service, Surgeon Lieutenant Colonel Creagh proceeded with it to South Africa in February 1900. He then served in Cape and Orange River Colonies until his death.
