3879 Pte. James Green was born in Liverpool in 1873, and enlisted in Liverpool on 4 August 1892.
Green was also imprisoned for 21 days on the 1st of December 1894 for losing his equipment by neglect.
On 21 May 1896 he was sentenced 14 days loss of pay and 1 month’s detention by a civil power for assault.
On the 8th of May 1897 he was again jailed for 42 days and fined 14 days’ pay for breaking out of barracks and losing his equipment by neglect.
Again he was sentenced to 21 days imprisonment and a loss of 21 days’ pay from drunkenness. He left the army in August 1899 but was recalled in November of that year.
He was taken prisoner on 29/12/1900 at Helvetia; this is confirmed on the roll. He was awarded the Queen's South Africa Medal with bars Reflief of Lady Smith, Laings Nek and Belfast, which are confirmed on the roll and in his service papers. He is also entitled to a KSA.
