George Prangle was born in Southwick, near Fareham / Hambledon in Hampshire on 12 May 1870. He enlisted on the 9 January 1889.
He was taken Prisoner of War at Helvetia on 29 December 1900 and later released.
His father was Thomas Prangle, a labourer, and George followed his trade. He married Emily Chant (b. 26/01/1871) on 19/10/1895. She was the daughter of another labourer, Thomas Chant. According to the 1939 register, George was a farm labourer and he and Emily lived at 63 Yew Tree, Chilgrove, Chichester, Sussex. George died in Worthing, Sussex during the 2nd quarter of 1957 when he was 87 years old. George enlisted in the 4th Bn. Royal Sussex Regt. on 23/11/1914 when he was 44 years old. He was 74 Pte. George Prangle and was in the 7th National Reserve. He was posted on 20/10/1915 and then transferred to Class W Army Reserve on 30/08/1916. It appears that he did not qualify for any WWI medals as he didn't go overseas.
