John

You have found another good pair to add to your PoW collection. Thank you for sharing it. There may be an interesting story to be told about Smith's capture and release.

Regards
Brett

Hi John,

A nice pair,I saw these on Bill Friars website and then they were sold!
I am pleased they have gone to your collection, as Brett says could be an interesting story.

Cheers
Paul :)

Hi Brett and Paul,

Thanks. I hope you're right as it's the story that's interesting. I hope the papers will tell me which unit he was with and where he was captured. Happy New Year to both of you!

Hi John

Smith served in the 42nd Fortress Company RE.
I put 31 March 1900 and In/Near Bloemfontein in my Boer War Database : there were 7 men from 5 units listed as "Died of Disease".
Smith is the only other entry. It is virtually 100% certain that his temporary capture was an isolated happening not recorded in any published source.
