An interesting casualty entry - how is he released at Pretoria before the city is captured by the British, any research on that?

Great question and I wish I knew the answer. It wasn't unusual at all for PoWs to be released early; even the same day. There's one anecdote of a fellow being caught and released three times and the capturing Boer said thank you for the arms, ammo, equipment and boots. There's always further research to be done. Fingers crossed I'll find out more.
