This is a great museum. Deceptively, doesn't look too big from the outside, but the display area is below ground-level and is really well-worth visiting, as well as being excellent value for money.






Above is the 5th Dragoons' Commanding Officer's flag, which was flown outside Colonel Gore's tent during the siege of Ladysmith.

I've not included everything ABW-related that's on display, so there's more there for you to go and see.


7th Dragoon Guard's ABW memorial plaque.


Cup commemorating the service of 27 named officers of the 4th Battalion Prince of Wales's Own West Yorkshire Regiment in the South African Campaign. Both the above memorials will be featured in full in Memorials & Monuments in the future.

No, I went there last month.



"Banknote taken from the treasury chest of Martinus Steyn, one of the most senior Boer leaders, when his HQ in the town of Reitz was captured by the men of 7th Dragoon Guards in July 1901."

North Yorkshire was in Tier 1 at the time, which was lucky for me. Very few visitors in York while I was there, it's usually packed.
