Hi

Kommandant Albrecht (1848-1926), founder of the Orange Free State Artillery in 1880, was an NCO in the 4th Battery, Garde Field Artillery in Berlin and took part in the Franco-Prussian War (1870-71).. At the start of the Boer War the OFS Artillery the Corps numbered some 500 highly trained and well disciplined Officers, NCO's and men, organized on a Prussian military basis.
He was one of the senior Boer Officers taken PoW with Genl Cronje at Paardeberg on 28 Feb 1900 and was sent to St Helena.
After the war, up to 1910, he was sergeant-at-arms of the Legislative Assembly of the Orange River Colony.

I have it that his Prussian awards and his sword were buried with him, but his widow retained the DTD and ABO.
