Carel Frederick Basson served in the Marico Commando for the full duration of hostilities until he laid down arms at Waterkloof on 6 June 1902. His medal application noted actions at “Bestorming van Mafeking”, Delmanutha, Silikatsnek and Roodewal. According to his “Vorm C” he received a “vleis wond in been” (flesh wound in leg).
