BSACM rev: Rhodesia 1896 (Trooper J.M. Bennett BBP);
ABO (Burger J.M. Bennett)
City Coins June 2004.
The catalogue says "As far as is known, no combination of a BSA Co Medal and an Anglo-Boere Oorlog Medalje has appeared on the market. The BBP were disbanded in Dec 1895 and Jan 1896 but their medals for the 1896 campaign were still named BBP (Bechuanaland Bdr. Police) and the medal roll was annotated accordingly. Bennett’s name will be found on the Belingwe Column roll with ‘BBP’ entered next to his name. John Michael Bennett served in the Modder River Cds OFS and then the Pretoria Police. He was present at Rooilaagte, Modder River and Magersfontein and was taken PoW near Barberton in Sept 1900 and held at Green Point PoW Camp Cape Town (Skyview camp) until peace. His ABO was issued in 1941 (with ABO application form copy plus 4 photos of the recipient in later life). He served with Genls. Cronje and de la Rey and was captured shortly after Pres. Kruger entered Portuguese territory. Medals acquired via the family and dealer.
