Johannes Cronje was 43 years old when he was one of the more than 4000 burghers who fell into British hands on 30 July 1900 when Gen. Marthinus Prinsloo surrendered at Slaapkrans in the Brandwater Basin. His PoW number was 10546. He had served in the Rouxville Commando and was in action at Stormberg, Aliwal North, Zand River and other skirmishes. The medal was claimed by his widow in December 1922. Sold with copies of Vorm “B” and PoW Register.
