The DTD to Kommandant Andries Francois Du Toit, who was appointed as Acting General when General C.H. Muller and Fighting General Wynand Viljoen attended the Peace Conference in Vereniging. He was thus in charge of Boer forces in the Eastern Transvaal area during this time.
I know a lot about him thanks to a 1948 publication by P.H.S. van Zyl, Waar en Trou, published in 1948.
This book contains various chapters with contributions by Boer soldiers. Andries Francois Du Toit contributed a whole chapter on his experiences. He initially served as an NCO with the Lydenburg Commando and served at Platrand (Wagon Hill) and Spion Kop.
Appointed by General Louis Botha on 20th June 1900, with the rank of Captain, he was in charge of his own scouting corps, called the R.R.C., the "Rooi Regering Corps". He was promoted to Commandant on 29th January 1901. He would serve under Ben Viljoen with the area of operation confined to the Eastern Transvaal.
Along with Commandant Moll, they and their commandos were successful in the attack on Fort Mpisane, where a detachment of Steinaeckers Horse were routed.

Great addition Jon. Is the ABO extant? Do you have Waar en Trou?

Regards

Howzit Rory

ABO missing and no sign of it ever being on market, the descendants have no idea where the medals were, and DTD came from JHB dealer. Maybe the ABO has long been melted down.
I have copy of Waar en Trou in my laptop. One of the benefits of having a daughter studying at Pretoria University in 2011, allowed her to bring books from their Afrikana library when she came home for me to scan. As I was paying for her to study I thought I may as well get some benefit from it,

Regards
Jon

Hi
It may still be with another family member. I am also looking for some that never came into the market.
We live in hope.
