Willem Ferreira joined the Kroonstad Commando (Lower Valsch River Ward) in April 1900 at the age of 12 years and 6 months. He subsequently saw action at Brandfort, Bothaville, Roodewal (burning of mail, stores and ammunition by Gen de Wet on 7 June 1900), etc. and was never captured.
He did not serve in WWI, but during WWII he enlisted in 28 Road Construction Co, SAEC (March 1941). He was discharged as “medically unfit” in July 1941.
