ABO (Burger E.W.P. Gombart), City Coins August 2011.
According to Vorm “B” Edward Gombart joined the Boksburg Commando and saw action in Natal (Colenso, Spion Kop, Ladysmith, etc.). In April 1900 he changed units by enlisting in the American Scouts under Capt. John Hassell. After action with them at Thabanchu and Thobakop, he was captured at Kroonstad on 10 May 1900 and sent to Ceylon. His PoW No. was 2715 and his unit on the official PoW Register is confirmed as American Scouts.
Sold with copies of Vorm “B”, extract from PoW Register, copies of the first 6 pages of the Memoirs of Capt. Hassell, describing formation of American Scouts. The medal has been somewhat handled with a 1mm hole in the edge. All naming details are clear, making it an extremely rare ABO identifiable to an important Foreign Volunteer Unit that fought on the Boer side.
