Copies of his medal application shows that his name was Joubert, Johannes, Willem, Jacobus, Joubert (the “E” in 2nd Joubert was stamped as an “H’.) He states he was a regular Burger and later Verkenner. Fought with Pretoria Commando and later Heidelberg Commando. Fought from September 1899 to July 1902. He was wounded and captured. He was POW and sent to India “Unibala” Kamp Punjab Dist. He served with Veldkornet Daniel Opperman and Gen. D. Erasmus in Heidelberg Kommando under W.P. Pretorius (Veld Kr) Gens H.
