Copies of his application Vorm B shows that he served in the Staats Artillery. His address is Box 38, Davel. Davel is a little town 191 km from Pretoria.
His rank is shown as Adj Officer Wapen Smid Staats Artillery. He served from 1900 – 1902. He fought at Spionkop, Alemans Nek. There is a letter from Kaptein Kruger declaring that the applicant was sent to France during the War. He cannot remember when he returned. He was captured at Kameelpoort 27 October 1901 and sent to St Helena. There is a copy of a photograph of him from the Archives. He was born 9/11/1877 and he died 2/11/1955. He is buried with his wife in Davel Johanna Margeretha (Meyer) 13/1/1882. Died 12/1/1954
