ABO (Burger H.P.J. le Roux). City Coins November 2009

Hendrik le Roux claimed service at Dundee, Colenso, Dalmanutha, etc, but was not entitled to the ABO medal and that he actually was a “hensopper”!

Although his Vorm “B” was duly signed by an officer and approved in Jan. 1924, there are a number of anomalies.

Le Roux stated that he was captured in October 1901 and returned from captivity in July 1902, adding, in brackets, Green Point. The British PoW Register records his date of capture as 3 October 1900 with a note “Standerton Refugee Camp”. The data base of the Boer War Museum in Bloemfontein also notes against his name “Standerton 14/05/1901”.
