DTD; ABO (Asst. V.Kornet C.F. Meyer). City Coins August 2008
LvW (Lint voor Wonden) ribbon only

Coenraad Meyer served as Assistant Fieldcornet of Ward 3 of the Utrecht Commando from 20 September 1899. His first action was at Dundee (Talana), followed by the actions at Ladysmith up to the final retreat from Natal (Helpmekaar, 13 May 1900).

He was shot through the lungs at Kambula near Vryheid on 10 September 1900: this entitled him to the Wound Riband (LvW).

He later participated in Gen Louis Botha’s second expedition to Natal and took part in two VC actions: Spieshoek (Blood River Poort: 17 Sept 1901) and Taleni (Fort Itala: 26 Sept 1901). He was the first Boer Officer to arrive on the scene of the massacre of the Boer Force at Holkrantz, by the Zulus under the Native Chief Sikobobo, in the District of Vryheid on 6 May 1902.

Meyer was a " Bittereinder': he was one of 570 men who finally surrendered to Maj Gen Bruce Hamilton at Knight’s Farm near Utrecht on 13 June 1902.
