Hi, my name is Jan Neelmeyer and I am researching my wife's family, Meneses. Maria Carolina Meneses (Morries) and I am told that her father came from Scotland to join the Boers in the war. He changed his name from David John Morris to David Johannes Morries and lived in Mossel Bay after the war.
Do you have any further information on him that I can benefit from?

Your family member is my aunt being the brother of David Henrik Morries (my father) who died in 1961.
Not sure if you have discovered anything new.

I have always being interested in where the Morries surname originated. Recently with the help of my wife's
cousin, we managed to trace it back to the family member who emigrated from England, James Morris.

From what I have found, it is his father Hendrik Jacobus Marthinus Morries, son of James Morris, who changed
his surname to Morries to fight the British.

James Morris lived in Potchefstroom and married a Afrikaner so the conversion from British started with him
