From the next City Coins auction, November 2020

ABO (Burger J.W.S. Nel)

Jacob Willem Stephanus Nel, a Cape Rebel of the farm Klipbankshoek, Calvinia, was one of the horse guards in Commandant A Louw’s Commando taken prisoner. The group were taken to Sutherland and thence to Matjesfontein where they stood trial in a Military Court on 24 January 1902. Nel was sentenced to Penal Servitude for 7 years for High Treason under arms, but the Royal Commission reduced the sentence to 2 years, and he was granted partial amnesty during March 1903.

Due to carelessness at the Mint when the medal was named the numeral 6 instead of G was used in the rank.
