Daniel Oosthuizen must have been quite young at the start of the Boer War as he only joined the Marico Commando early in 1900. He saw service at various important Western Transvaal engagements such as Yzer Spruit & Kleinfontein (Lt.Col. S.B. Von Donop, where the Royal Artillery, was defeated on both occasions) and the storming of Lichtenburg.
