ABO (Burger C.M.P. Pretorius). City Coins June 2004

Christiaan Pretorius joined the Pretoria Commando from the Elands River Ward. He served in Natal during 1899 and in the vicinity of Pretoria and in the Eastern Transvaal from 1900 to 1902. In his medal application he specifically mentions the Actions at Zustershoek (19 September 1900), where the British took large numbers of cattle and sheep, and at Rhenoster Kop (29/30 Nov 1900) where the Boer forces under Gen Ben Viljoen engaged a 2500 strong British column. The latter, under Brig Gen Plumer, included men from the 1st-3rd Australian Bushmen, Queensland Imperial Bushmen with some Tasmanians and New Zealand M.R.
