ABO (Burger D.J. Strauss) City Coins August 2008

David Strauss was a member of the famous ZARP’s, the Mounted Section of the Johannesburg Police. His initial service was at Colenso and Ladysmith. The unit was then brought into action in the Colesberg vicinity, where he was wounded in the leg on 28.1.1900 (awarded Lint voor Wonden, Vorm “C” being certified by his C/O, Comdt. Van Dam). After recuperating he joined the Krugersdorp Cdo. and was taken PoW at Nooitgedacht on the 22 August 1900 (on his Vorm “B” he erroneously gives the year as 1901). He spent the rest of the war as PoW 12309 on St Helena.
