ABO (Burger G. van Niekerk). City Coins April 2013
Guillaume (spelt Gielam on Vorm ‘B’) van Niekerk was a Cape Rebel from Douglas in the Herbert District who joined General P. de Villiers’ Commando on 2 November 1899. He fought for the duration of die war and saw action at Koedoesberg, Magersfontein, and Faber’s Put, etc.
He was tried under “The Indemnity and Special Tribunals Act of 1900” at a sitting of the Commission held at Douglas in default on 21 April 1902 (Case No 143) and, as Class 2 rebel, he was disqualified from voting till 21 April 1907.
