Wessel van Onselen served in the Reitz Commando and mentioned actions where he was present as Ladysmith, Tugela, Colesberg and Twee Rivieren. He further stated that he was taken prisoner in February 1902, that he was in hospital for a month with 3 bullet wounds and then sent to Umballa Camp in India and that he returned home on 26 September 1902.
However, in the POW Register he is listed as No. 22133, captured Reitz on 7 June 1901 and he arrived in Ladysmith on 14 August 1901.
