Parents
Father: Roelof Petrus Jansen van Vuuren (1853 - 1930)
Mother: Anna Magdalena Grobler (1860 – 1922)
Daniel was the fifth eldest of 10 children.
The preceding Janse Van Vuuren family had fought at the Battle of Blood River (16th December 1838) with the strong possibility of his father (and uncles) fought with the Boers at the Siege of Potchefstroom under General Cronje in the First Anglo Boer War.
Anglo Boer War
At the outbreak of the 2nd Anglo Boer War Daniel, his father and elder brother (Gert) joined the Potchefstroom Commando and served under Veldkornet George Willem Holl (Wijk Vaalrivier):

According to his Vorm B he fought at the following engagments:

On the 11th December 1899 Daniel would have found himself as a 14 ½ year old in the trenches, with his family, facing the Highland Brigade. One can only image the experience for such a young man.
Post War
After the War Daniel married Maria Elizabeth Jansen van Vuuren on the 21st March 1911; Daniel was by now 26 years old and his bride was 19 years old.
They welcomed their first child, Anna Catharina Magdalena, the following year in 1912.

Daniel passed away at the age of 76 on his farm at Buffelshoek on the 6th November 1956 at the age of 71.
