Kirk | W | 11016 | Staff Sergeant Major | DISTINGUISHED CONDUCT MEDAL, V.R. (11016 Sq.-Serjt.-Maj., Imp. Yeo.). DNW Sep 94 £450. William Kirk was born at Inver, Co. Donegal, and enlisted at Belfast for the 60th Company (North Irish Horse), Imperial Yeomanry, on 23 January 1900. He was promoted Corporal on 1 October 1900, reverted to Private two months later, and on 1 January 1901, was promoted Squadron Sergeant Major. He was discharged at his own request on 14 October 1901, having served in South Africa since April 1900. His discharge papers Note: 'Now entitled and recommended for Distinguished Conduct Medal.'
