Introduction

 

We welcome the contribution of Boer War related material for use on the site. 

Any information, documents, images or photographs supplied must be free of any copyright or licencing restrictions and should be offered without the expectation of the payment of any monetary reward. 

Not all the material that is offered can be used but the majority is suitable and is added to the site.

Supplying information for the register

One of the goals of the site is to build the list of people associated with the Boer War so that either their information is contained in the site or there are pointers to where it can be found.  All the names are stored in a database called the register.  The register has a set format so any information that is contributed needs to align with the format of the database.  If you have information that is suitable to be added to the register, it is probably easiest to supply it in Excel format with the following column headings:

• Surname
• Forenane
• Regimental number
• Rank
• Unit / regiment
• Notes

Supplying graphics or pictures

If you have any images, they should ideally be in .JPG format and have a maximum size of 2,000 pixels for the main site and 1,000 pixels for the forum.  The filename should not contain any spaces or special characters.

The site makes use of the iptc caption capability of JPG pictures to hold information about the picture and this will be added if it is not already present.  If you can add the iptc information before supplying any pictures, it will reduce the time taken to publish the image.

Of particular interest are named photographs.
