Sergeant MUSE, and Privates SCARR, SIMPSON, and MARTIN, arrived by the 7.5 train on Friday night, and were received at the station by the members of the D Company, 4th V.B.D.L.I., under Captain Humble. The station and village were profusely decorated, and speeches of welcome were delivered by Lieutenant-Colonel Humble, Captain Humble, Councillor Cook, and Mr James Haddon, in the presence of 5,000 people. – Sergeant MUSE acknowledges the kind welcome. – It is intended to hold a smoking concert shortly, at which presentations will be made to the men.

PRESENTATIONS TO RETURNED VOLUNTEERS.

On Friday night, at the brass foundry of Messrs Hawthorn, Leslie and Co.’s Works, St Peter’s, Private Geo. HARRISON, a member of the Fusiliers’ Service Company, who recently returned from South Africa, was presented with a silver watch by his fellow-workmen in the foundry. Mr Frank Hudas, Foreman of the foundry, made the presentation.

A dinner was held in West Pelton School on Friday night in honour of Sergt. MUSE and Privates SIMPSON, SCARR, and MARTIN, members of the Beamish Volunteer Corps who recently returned from active service in South Africa. Gold medals were presented to each of the men. Col. Humble made the presentations.
