BLACKWARRY.

MAY 19.

A social on behalf of our returned soldier, Private Wm. RUDD, was held at the residence of Mr J.C. Daniel, recently, nearly all the residents of the district being present to welcome Mr RUDD back. Mr Wm. Chilvers, with many kind expressions of welcome, presented Mr RUDD with a handsome gold medal as a token of their appreciation of a true and loyal Britton. Mr RUDD thanked one and all for their kindness and then gave some idea of the difficulties to be contended with in South Africa. He described the country, climate, etc., with the result that many of us feel more satisfied with the part we live in. During the evening many songs and recitations were given by the ladies and gentlemen present, in good style, Miss Wills and Miss Daniel (piano), and Mr F. Forder (violin) were very good, and thanks to Mr and Mrs Daniel we had the most enjoyable evening ever spent at Blackwarry.
