The "welcome home" previously, arranged for Bugler C.J. SCOTT, of the First Queensland Contingent, and postponed on account of the death of her Majesty, took place at O'Connor's Oriental Hotel on Tuesday evening, Mr M.J. Kirwan presiding. An apology for non-attendance was received from Captain Stephens, who was present at another similar function. Among those present were Privates SOLWAY and GOODCHILD, of the First Contingent, and Sergeant HENLY (Q.D.F.). The first toast honoured was "His Majesty the King", proposed by the Chairman, and the usual other toasts on such occasions were duly honoured. At intervals during the evening songs were rendered by Messrs Cummings, McKellar, Devine, Emythe, and Senyard, the efforts of the vocalists being evidently appreciated, as a recall was demanded in each Instance. The chairman, on behalf of the subscribers, presented Bugler SCOTT with a gold medal, suitably inscribed. The recipient, in a feeling speech, acknowledged the presentation. A most enjoyable evening was brought to a close by the chairman's health being enthusiastically toasted, with musical honours.
