Trooper Walter SMALE, who had such a marvellous escape from being killed at Hartebeestfontein, a Mauser bullet passing through his head, has been entertained at a social, at which over 200 of his friends were present, at Barrakee. The presidents of the Charlton and Korong shires (Messrs Williams and Erris) occupied the chair and vice-chair respectively. Trooper SMALE was presented with a gold locket and chain, valued at £10.
