BACK FROM THE WAR.
WELCOME HOME AT CALIVIL.
Calivil, 24th May.
The many friends of Trooper R.A. DOW, of Calivil, a member of the Fifth Contingent, assembled in Mr J. Davidson’s barn, Pompapiel, on Friday evening to tender him a welcome home. The entertainment took the form of a social and dance, and was largely attended. The chairman (Mr Potter) presented the returned soldier with a gold watch chain and locket, suitably inscribed, and on behalf of the assemblage congratulated Trooper DOW on his safe return. Cr. Laird also spoke a few words of welcome, and eulogised the work of the Australian contingents in South Africa. Trooper DOW, in a modest and soldierly manner, returned thanks.
