HOME FROM THE WAR.
On Wednesday evening, at the residence of Mr Banks, Burke Road, Camberwell, a number of citizens met to welcome Private W.J. BANKS back from South Africa, after 15 months’ service. Captain P. Mahoney presented him, on behalf of the citizens, with a gold medal, on which was a suitable inscription. The soldier, who had been a cadet at one time, briefly returned thanks, and gave a few instances of his narrow escapes.
