CHILDERS.—On Friday evening a welcome home was accorded to Sergeant A. WALKER and Trooper A. J. WHELAN, of the Australian Imperial Regiment, who returned by the Orient.
The Mechanics' Institute was crowded to the doors. The meeting took the form of a social concert, patriotic songs and recitations being rendered. During the evening the returned soldiers were each presented with a gold locket.
Trooper WHELAN was for three months a patient in the Kimberley Hospital, suffering from a severe attack of enteric fever, but which has left him entirely free from any ill effects.
