GOLD MEDALS AT COLNE.

On Saturday the new Municipal Hall, Colne, was densely crowded, when 19 men who had served in the South African campaign were presented with gold medals. Mr Wilkinson, Colne Ambulance Brigade chairman, presided, supported by the Mayor, Corporation, and other influential gentlemen. Colonel Mitchell, the officer commanding the 2nd Volunteer Battalion East Lancashire Regiment, in distributing the medals, trusted that the peace negotiations would be successful. Mrs Shaw, The Gables, Colne, pinned the medals on.
