A complimentary social lo Trooper DUFF, of the fourth contingent, was held in the Dunrobin School on Wednesday evening last. The schoolroom, which had been nicely decorated for the occasion, presented a gay appearance, and the residents, almost to a "man", turned out to welcome the returned soldier. Mr A.G. McKenzie (chairman), on behalf of the Reception Committee, extended a hearty greeting to Trooper DUFF. An interesting programme of vocal items was then proceeded with; towards which the following contributed: — Mrs Kerr, Misses May, Kerse and Ballantyne, Messrs F.K. Wilkins. A. Edie, J. Ballantyne, J. Haugh, and Masters H. and A. Kerse, in addition to which the Rev. John Collie delivered a speech. The National Anthem and "Soldiers of the King" were rendered by the whole audience. During an interval in the concert Miss Ballantyne, on behalf of the young people of the district, presented. The guest with a handsome gold albert and Maltese cross, upon which were inscribed, "Presented to Trooper C.S. Duff by the residents of Dunrobin on his return from South Africa, 1901. Fourth contingent N.Z.R.R."  The recipient suitably replied. At the conclusion of the concert refreshments, which had been thoughtfully provided by the ladies, were handed round. The room was then cleared for dancing, which was kept up till an early hour.
