CYCLISTS AT DINNER.

EXETER CLUB GIVES PTE. AGNEW A GOLD MEDAL.

At the 25th annual dinner of the Exeter Cycling Club held last night at the Bude Hotel, the Sheriff (Mr T. Linscott) presided over a good company, …….

……. Privates AGNEW and PALMER, who have just returned from the front, were the guests of the evening, and they occupied seats on the right of the Sheriff.

After dinner the loyal toasts were honoured. Alderman Bradley gave “The Army and Navy”, and Captain Ham, of the 1st R.V. responded. Submitting the toast of “Our Guests”, the Chairman spoke of the patriotism of Devonians, and especially those in Exeter, and referred to the part taken by members of the Cycling Club. He expressed the pleasure of the Company in entertaining Ptes. AGNEW and PALMER. He had pleasure in presenting Private AGNEW with a gold medal subscribed for by the members of the Club, as an expression of their goodwill and fellowship. Amid hearty cheers Pr. AGNEW rose to acknowledge the toast. His pleasure was, he said, tinged with sadness as the thought that of the three men the cyclists had sent out he was the one to return so far, and Mr S. RIPPON would never come back. …….

……. He sincerely thanked the members of the Exeter Cycling Club for their presentation, and he could only say it was more than he merited. – Pr. PALMER also briefly replied.
