Subscribed for by members of No. 3 Section, 27th (Devonshire) Company, 7th Bn. Imperial Yeomanry.

 

Inscribed: "Presented to Sergt.-Major Tuffrey, by Section 3, 27th Company Imperial Yeomanry, prior to their departure for South Africa, February, 1900. Vale".

Tuffrey said "he was very sorry he could not go with them". As Instructor, Tuffrey did not accompany the section to the Cape.

Last evening, at Topsham Barracks, Sergt. Bright, on behalf of the members of the 3rd Section Imperial Yeomanry, presented Sergt.-Major TUFFREY with a gold chain and shield, inscribed thus: Presented to Sergt.-Major Tuffrey, by Section 3, 27th Company Imperial Yeomanry, prior to their departure for South Africa, February, 1900. Vale”. After the presentation the subscribers gave hearty cheers. Sergt.-Major TUFFREY, in acknowledging the present, said he was very sorry he could not go with them.
